✿ Overall Thoughts ✿
🖨 Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? If you predicted anything.
This is really funny because I feel like I have written very little, and yet I have written more than last year. Granted, last year I wrote also very little, but like looking at the numbers, I can't believe I wrote more than 15k words. It doesn't FEEL like it.
I did want to write more, looking back at my goals, so that helps. But also, there was olymfics so I guess it wasn't hard to make it.
🖨 What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted at the start of the year? Did you get into a new pairing/genre/fandom?
Not only I have not innovated in terms of fandoms, I have stayed within comfort areas. Which I guess in a sense is innovative - I leaned into what comforted me, whenever possible. Tried to be a little bit selfish.
I did get to write, and imagine very vividly the 90-year-line do a girl group cover heels included, which is not something I would have thought I'd be able to write!
🖨 What’s your own favourite story of the year?
It makes me so happy to report I have several ones that really bring me joy even now that they are written!
The top one would be, no doubt, even if morning comes (aka taekwoon does a gg cover for once), which brings me an immense joy to imagine. Honestly, I have no idea if the fic is good. Everything is powered through the very clear picture I have in my head, which is in turn fueled by Eunkwang and Minhyuk's covers in the 10th anniversary concert of Love dive and Antifragile. It's a "physical" manifestation of that joy, and every time I come back to it I feel it again, and after years feeling nothing less than meh about my fics, that's amazing for me.
🖨 Do you have a story from previous years you now feel is underappreciated? Better than you remembered it to be?
Possibly the weki meki ones, because they (the girls) deserve the world, and I like water gun fics and I had fun writing that -- but otherwise I don't think I have that, no.
🖨 Did you take any writing risks this year?
I did!! Not many, because I didn't write that many stories, but I did!
For the ggcover fic I had to take the risk of doing something I really had enjoyed and make myself vulnerable enough to write about it but also the fact that I was trying to write about something happening visually through fic. I am not sure how well that went, but I tried and that count, for me!
Also, for the vampire fic I tried to be actively funny rather than "gen with maybe some one liners"!
🖨 Biggest source of inspiration this year?
Everything. I had so many ideas this year and I barely managed to write any!! Everyone was on their top game giving inspiration! BTOB with their gg covers, Dreamcatcher being villains, or idk drunk and naked, their stories while they are on tour, or the fansign costumes everywhere!! Jaehwan being a terrible person and being the assigned gym rat, Taekwoon getting a puppy and not telling us for months?? Taekwoon and his friendship with Xiumin? Xiumin and Hakyeon catching up on the VIXX concert backstage? DREAMCATCHER AND VIXX EXISTING ON THE SAME TIME AND SPACE?
Also MOONSUN BEING MARRIED, the Sensitive MV with the searching for loona members storyline, Chuu and Heejin being so cute with each other, Hyeju and Gowon being also very girlfriends... I truly could go on forever.
🖨 Is there a character you've really enjoyed writing this year?
I had lots of fun writing Bora as a princess, although in my mind the story went way more than where it did (ah, fun time constraints), I really liked that version of her. Also witch Handong!!
And, not going to like, vampire Siyeon cockblocked because of vampire magic was also pretty fun.
🍃 Do you have any general writing goals for the new year?
I would like to say to write more but... I know work is hard and I get tired. Like, a lot ("lot") of the stories I wrote this year feel incomplete, and that's because... they are. I have been trying to abide by the "it's better something posted than nothing at all", especially forvixxmas or scarygirlynight. And while I still agree with that, I want to try and be able to round up things more.
And if not, then work on plot ideas so I don't take as much time before actually writing.
Alternatively, getting to write prsk fic would be NICE.

❄ My best story (or scene!) of this year:
Honestly I don't know if it's best, but I want to give this honor to the time travel fic, because I am proud of getting it out even if it's only like 1% of what should be.
❄ My most popular story of this year:
That would be vampire silly girlfriends! Both in bookmarks and kudos.
❄ Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
I literally posted thevixxmas fics so I could count them here and they sit there with zero hits and zero kudos so I am going to say them even if it's on a technicality.
❄ Longest story of the year:
even if morning comes, my beloved ggfic.
❄ Shortest story of the year:
Oh, shoulder cat! With 613 words!
❄ Most fun story to write:
even if morning comes, hands down. No competitor here.
❄ Story that needed the most research:
even if morning comes too, I guess. Although rewatching Deep Blue Eyes and ggcovers by 90-line fancams should hardly count as research if it's your hobby. Realistically though it did need *some* research, since I wanted to be somewhat realistic.
🔥 Story with the single sexiest moment:
Wow this was the year of gen so there's not much to choose from. I'm going to go with reminder to invite your local vampire in, because there was implied making out and with vampires.
🍩 Story with the single cutest/sweetest moment:
Ahhhh, that would be the 2yoo fic Sweet revelation (everything you say). I am still unsure about my Dami voice but everything in that is SO FLUFFY.
😶 Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
Depending on who we ask, that would be the OT6, Hakyeon goes back to the past to remake history time machine fic.
❄ Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Possibly Anything past the horizon, as that included having to imagine what going through parenthood would mean for them even if it was in this AU situation.
❄ Hardest story to write:
I think... her faith resides in the stars. I had a very clear image of what I wanted but I wasn't managing for it to sound how I wanted.
❄ Biggest disappointment:
Disappointment is a big word, but I am going to go with shoulder cat for this. Because while I do like how it turned out, it was very different from what I had in mind, and also it feels unfinished to me.
❄ Biggest surprise:
reminder to invite your local vampire in!!! Not really in a conventional way but I wrote vampires, y'all!!
❄ Most unintentionally telling story:
Somehow that would be even if morning comes. I still don't know how yet, but I am sure it is this one.

It’s gone before Yubin can inspect it further, all thoughts gone when Yoohyeon smiles back at her, and so she lets it be.

“Okay, that’s fair,” Siyeon concedes, instead. “Any other questions, then?”
“Just one more, for now,” Gahyeon says. When Siyeon nods, and despite being alone in the apartment, Gahyeon gets close enough to whisper. “Does this consent magic also works when we are… you know, in bed?”
“Yah!” Siyeon exclaims, making Gahyeon laugh in the process.

It's amazing how I both wrote more and less of what I wanted at the same time. It feels weird, but also it makes sense, because while there are more words in total, the ideas do not feel as finished.
I think I could have done better, but it would not be fair to say I am disappointed because well... I did write more. I did work on not having such harsh editor brain. That is progress, and while it is not pretty progress I don't want to feel bad about it.
Honestly, given how many times I have fallen asleep early this year I am proud I manage to write as much as I did. I think that is the story I am going to keep.
✿ Fic-writing goals for 2024: ✿
Writing more. Plotting better. But mostly I think carving out the time to work on fic that is not for fests. Because that is what will eventually help me feel happier with what I write. I do feel I rely on fests (because deadlines) in order to get fic out (and honestly, who doesn't), and if I try to be really sure of an idea before writing it then it never happens (I'm looking at you kenvi spy fic) - so I think maybe the goal for next year is work on the balance between the two and I post something that is not for a fest but that I get to polish and write on for as much I think it could need before I'm happy with it.
