✿ Overall Thoughts ✿
🖨 Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? If you predicted anything.
Last year I wrote less fic than expected so even if it wasn't explicitly formulated, I think I did expect to write more than last year. However, we can't always get what we want, right? And I mean, I did write something, so I am going to be happy about that. It has been a crazy year (I moved!! To a place for myself!!) so I need to be kinder to myself about that.
🖨 What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted at the start of the year? Did you get into a new pairing/genre/fandom?
I absolutely did not predict TXT. I am zero surprised, given that this wasnekrateholic's influence mainly, but I mean I didn't plan it. Much. It was for the summer kbas exchange, which the premise was to write for a fandom that we had never written for, so at least I knew there would be something new for this question!
(I have also adopted them now.)
And yet, yes I did get into a new fandom that I did not write for! I started playing this rhythm mobile game called Project Sekai, which has a very compelling set of characters that I adore very much. I have not written fic for it (yet? if I ever do?) but I do very much consider it a new fandom for me.
Also I accidentally dabbed into terror fic on the moonsun fic taking the joke too far. I mean nothing happened, stayed a joke, but for a moment there... it could have happened, had I been a different person.
🖨 What’s your own favourite story of the year?
Oh man, I am so fond of all of them, all for different reasons! Which is new for me to say, I know!
If I can only pick one, I am going to say the sudong one. It's not perfect, but its conception is everything I wish for my fics to be: These people did something, sparked an idea in my mind and I wrote it. For better or worse, but it's there and I did it for me, and so I am proud of it.
🖨 Do you have a story from previous years you now feel is underappreciated? Better than you remembered it to be?
Nah, I actually think my fics are doing well. They are lil plants just chilling. I do wish the Weki Meki ones got more attention but not because they are under appreciated, but because it would be a sign that the fandom is livelier!
🖨 Did you take any writing risks this year?
I wrote for a whole new fandom I didn't know of! On purpose!! On a deadline! For a person used to write curtain fluffy fic, reliant in knowing the characters, it was a pretty big risk!
Also for the moonsun I actually posted the closest to a multi-chapter thing I have ever done, and without having finished it before posting the first parts!
🖨 Biggest source of inspiration this year?
Friends, mostly. Also dreamcatcher being gay. And mamamoo being gay. yoojung and doyeon even kissed.
🖨 Is there a character you've really enjoyed writing this year?
I have to say, hakyeon teasing taekwoon on their beach date was pretty cute in my opinion. Or I enjoyed it a lot, at least. Honestly I felt like I could have gone forever, I only stopped because of deadline.
Likewise with wonshik and jaehwan not quite almost making out.
🍃 Do you have any general writing goals for the new year?
General? Hopefully write more. Hopefully one thing longer than 4-5k. I really missed that this year. Withkpopolymfics coming there's hope, but one never knows.
Also I kind of want to write both more vixx and more loona and maybe finally a seulrene fic. But I also do tend to hyperfixate so one at a time!

❄ My best story (or scene!) of this year:
Oh man the stories I like the most are kind of underwhelming because I wish I had more time to write more of them (the neo and the kenvi ones forvixxmas)
❄ My most popular story of this year:
Hm, in terms of kudos and hits alone it would be pick me up and take me home.
However, with as simple as this I noticed an interesting spike in comments that I usually don't get.
❄ Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Nah none.
❄ Longest story of the year:
That would be Chasing the stars (Stop making plans) with a little above 2k words!
❄ Shortest story of the year:
That honor, in a year of short stories, goes to it'll last longer, the kenvi last minute fill.
❄ Most fun story to write:
So this is a hard one because every story is a struggle at some point but I think it would be a tie between pick me up and take me home, as simple as this and return ticket to happiness.
The TXT one because it was an aimed attack to friends, and that's always, always fun. The neo one because BEACH DATES and I got the mood I wanted and flirting!! And god the sudong one. It was quite different from what I pictured but it was fun to write!
❄ Story that needed the most research:
God, our song, hands down. Given that it was for a fandom I hadn't actually written for before. Thankfully I had help, otherwise I would have not been able to do so.
🔥 Story with the single sexiest moment:
To me? it'll last longer. OR I tried to, at least. I am not quite at the point where I am able to re-read it so I am going by the feeling in my mind and that was, well, cozy and sexy.
🍩 Story with the single cutest/sweetest moment:
JAEHWAN COMING TO GET A HAIRCUT AND TAEKWOON AND HAKYEON POSTPONING THEIR DATE NIGHT FOR HIM (ain't no river wide enough) (sudong kissng and neo knuckle kissing come close but JAEHWANNIE IS THE ABSOLUTE CUTEST)
😶 Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
I think the closest to that it would be the moonsun. The fact that it was posted as it was written made it so I somehow insinuated that there was a real fear that solar was going to murder moonbyul. It ended up affecting the ending, because it was not as cozy as I hoped, but honestly? It was fun.
❄ Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
That would need to be either the sudong one, because it forced me to reflect how they would go about having a heart to heart conversation. And, well, the TXT ones, since I had to get in their skin for the first time.
❄ Hardest story to write:
The ones that ended up not happening, like the seulrene fic that never happened but that I tried for during the first months of the year. And the neo photographer AU that never quite happened forvixxmas.
❄ Biggest disappointment:
Disappointment would be a big word, but that would go for the kenvi one. I think I said, but that was such a last minute ficlet that barely had the space to give it the details I wanted. But I'm happy I managed, so I wouldn't want it to think I believe it's a disappointment.
❄ Biggest surprise:
The sudong. Hands down.
They did a thing, I was inspired. And was actually able to write it in a reasonable timeline!!
❄ Most unintentionally telling story:
I am not sure? I don't think there's any of them that's especially telling except for the fact that I am working on writing intimate scenes, not necessarily sexual, and it is something I want to get more comfortable with.

As slowly as one could possibly move, Hakyeon reaches the hand that is not holding his camera up and holds it between his own, before pulling it up and placing a kiss right above the knuckles. “I guess I would have to try and do something about them.”" - return ticket to happiness

"Yeonjun hasn’t been more charmed in his life. Which is pretty impressive, when the size of his own crush on Soobin rivals that of the whole country.

✿ Looking back at 2022: ✿I didn't write as much as I wanted, and actually looking at what I wrote it feels rather poor. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy everything I wrote but they are so short, I feel I have gone backwards in my progress on trying to write more solid things.
But on the other hand, looking back, I am proud I tried to take care of myself, and took a step back and not force myself to write fic just because. Also that I did write a fic that was not for an exchange nor for a friend but just for me.
And also!! I did a lot of modding work this year. It's not fic writing itself, but I did start an Ateez exchange, which for better or worse it did occupy some of my mental bandwith.
✿ Fic-writing goals for 2023: ✿I want to... write more? I want to try and exercise the writing whenver an idea comes, and I want to write longer things. It doesn't always needs to be longer, I would be happy to have one long story a year for a bit. The best goal is to keep taking it easy, to not fall in burnout. I'd rather have another year like this than not wanting to write -- I am aware that I have not written more because I didn't have the chance, not because I didn't want to, not really.
